Sneak Peek! Mr. + Mrs. Gleaton!!   February 7th, 2010

36th Street had such a fabulous time working Erin + Craig’s wedding last night at Barton Creek Country Club.  I could not help but snap a few pictures, via my iPhone, to share as a teaser!  Enjoy the ones I took and keep checking back for more pictures from the very talented Dustin Meyer Photography.

DIY Wednesday - Pretty Painted Vases   February 3rd, 2010

Once your planning process is in full swing you’ll really get to delve into the design aspects of your wedding, which for some brides can seem extremely daunting, while for others that’s all they care about.  No matter which bride you are, try to find some ways to make your tablescapes and centerpieces a bit more unique - like gathering mismatched vases, bowls and containers, and applying a quick little technique that will have all your guests wondering where on earth you found all those expensive pieces.

The materials are simple:

-Bottles, vases, bowls or containers in any shape or style you’re attracted to (don’t worry about color or finish)

-Matte finish spray paint (any color your’d like - just remember that you wouldn’t want the vases to overpower the flowers that will go in them!)

-Newspaper (for keeping your home spray-paint free)

-Painters Mask (to keep away from those nasty fumes!)

All you need to do is start spray painting the items you’ve chosen and you’re well on your way! Some glass containers and some vases with certain finishes may need two coats, so after you let the first coat dry be sure and check each one.

Another spin on this idea is if you’re using all clear glass containers (like the Ball Jars pictured below), to get stained glass paint (instead of spray paint) and a foam brush and start applying layers until the desired color shines through.  These look lovely with votive candles set inside as a great way to add a bit of color to your tables.

Till Next Wednesday!

Sara + Dana = Married!   February 1st, 2010

You might remember the absolutely adorable sneak-peek from Sara and Dana’s wedding last Fall, but I just had to let you see all the amazing details too! 36th Street Events helped Sara and Dana plan their wedding for an amazing 9 months, and seeing everything come together seamlessly in the end was hands-down the biggest reward and best payoff I could ever ask for.

Their Labor Day Weekend Wedding Festivities kicked off with a group trip to see the Longhorns beat University of Louisiana Monroe - and what better way to get your guests in the Austin mood than a little college football? The wedding was held at AMOA Laguna Gloria on a gorgeous Sunday evening, and there are no words to describe how absolutely breathtaking the day turned out to be, let alone how much fun this group all had together.  Enjoy some of their amazing photos from Tyler Schmitt Photography:

Also, be sure to check out Sara’s fabulous graphic design business, Little Wex Designs, and her rockin’ hair and makeup services too (she does weddings!!).

Till next time!

Shannon + Michael = Married.   January 29th, 2010

36th Street had the pleasure of working with this couple back in October.  Despite all the recent rain we had, this couple could not have chosen a more beautiful night to get married.  The LBJ Wildflower Center was the perfect venue that allowed guests to take in the starlit sky that night.  Andy at Studio563 did a fabulous job shooting this wedding!  Here are just some of my favorites from the evening.  Stacey from Petal Pushers rocked out the floral bouquet and arrangements with vibrant colors that really pop.  Check out the adorable couple below.

Maria + Zack. Reception   January 22nd, 2010

36th Street Events posted the ceremony images a few weeks ago and now you can check out their amazing reception.  Keeping with the Austin style, they used pedicabs as their  transportation from the ceremony, at St. Mary Cathedral, to the reception, at the Stephen F Austin, courtesy of Metrocycle Pedicab.  If I had to summarize Maria and Zack’s wedding in one word, it would be FUN!  From start to finish this couple had a smile on their face.  The pictures say it all.  Mollie from Bloom Photography did an amazing job capturing the moment.  Enjoy.

Keep a look out for more images of their awesome cake and candy table.  Now, get out and enjoy this beautiful wedding.  xoXo Beth

Welcoming in 2010: Engagement Photos   January 21st, 2010

Anyone who has thought about having a wedding someday, planned their own wedding, or even just been to a wedding, has probably noticed that most weddings have a general “theme” to keep things cohesive. Whether it’s an “Autumn” themed wedding with rich fall colors included in every aspect of the decor, or a “Wine and Food” themed wedding with mini-food courses and wine pairings throughout the night, it is nice to have some general direction to go off of when planning your wedding.

These days, themes aren’t just for weddings anymore, and the ones that are, are getting super creative and personal. Don’t be afraid to branch out and really think about what makes you special as a couple. Then use that! Your guests will have such a great time looking around and saying, “Oh, that is sooooo Jane and Jim!”

So you’ve started thinking about your wedding, but don’t forget about your engagement photos! These can act as a preview of your wedding for your guests, so give them (and yourselves) something to get excited about!

If you and your fiance are into super-cool retro everything, can’t get enough of Mad Men, and have more vinyl than you know what to do with, you would probably look pretty great getting all dolled up and taking a stroll with your photographer to get some vintage inspired engagement photos:

Crazy about your furry four legged friends? Bring them along!

Are you a true-blue Texan? Put on those boots and head out to the country to get some great rustic pictures:

If you’re in the entertainment industry, put on your shades and walk your own red carpet:

No matter what your style, incorporating personal touches in your engagement photos is sure to make for some super fun pictures and will definitely get you even more excited for your big day!

DIY Wednesday: Ceremony Chair Notes   January 20th, 2010

In lieu of (or in addition to) the traditional ceremony programs that usually get left behind or tossed before dinner, try this simple and effective idea of attaching sentimental words to your ceremony chairs.

Martha Stewart suggests adding a small carnation or other flower bud to the ribbon to brighten up the decor a bit (top photo), but we like just turning the words around so that the people in the row just behind can remember to “Love”, “Promise”, and “Cherish” during your ceremony (bottom photo).

All you’ll need is some ribbon, cardstock, and a pair of scissors for this easy decor add-on.
Once the cards are printed with the words you desire, you can either cut slits on either upper corner of the card and string the ribbon through, or you can fold the card in half over the ribbon and secure with a small piece of tape on the bottom. Either way, just make sure the size of the cards is proportional to your chairs. And for an outdoor ceremony, be sure to keep in mind the weather - if it’s a bit breezy at your ceremony location, try to tie the ribbon extra tight, and secure the cards as much as possible.

Enjoy!

Things We Love: Wedding Videos!   January 18th, 2010

Many of our clients now days are initially vetoing a wedding videographer, and we think it’s because they have this idea in their head of the cheesy old-school wedding videos from the 90’s. But times are changing, my friends, and having a videographer is one of the most important ways you can keep your wedding memories fresh in your head, next to having a fabulous photographer. You are going to be so busy on your wedding day that the time will just fly by, and being able to relive those special moments is so amazing - whether it’s a few months after your wedding, or on your one year anniversary, or even watching the video with your own family years down the road.

One of my favorite fall weddings, Sara and Dana, just shared their video trailer with me from the talented Graymask, and I just had to share it with you as well! I hope you get a glimpse of the fun we had, the special moments shared, and the gorgeous day that everyone enjoyed:

XOXO
